Suds and Suds

For almost 20 years I have loved listening to my friend Cara sing. When she started out singing in a band in college we would follow her around from bar to bar and listen and laugh, dance and sing along. When we all started getting married, she of course was called upon to sing and now more recently she has been performing in musical plays. Then the most recently, she has been writing and producing plays! This new path she has journeyed down is full of excitement, creativity and surprises.

A few months ago tragedy struck a family friend of hers. They called on her to put together a benefit show for the family. Since her production company had just put together their own musical, she had material to show. So, they packed up the gear and headed out from Montana to Central Oregon. Instead of being 10 hours away, Cara was now only 3 and would be performing. There was no choice.

I was headed over the mountain on a school night.
I wisely enlisted my friend Bethany to go with me…Heather and Beth were heading over earlier and they were also going to stay the night. We headed out at 2:35 PM from McMinnville and landed in Sisters at 5:00 PM…we flew! Show time was at 6:15 and all was on schedule.
The show was awesome! Cara and her friend Beth (who we call MT Beth) were fabulous. They sang. They danced. They made us laugh and cry. Cara even changed the lines to include me! I was the “new girl in town, you know, the one that wears silver jewelry and turquoise and runs a 5K”. Heather and Beth were also featured. Since we were in the front row…well, it was hard not to notice us laughing!
Cara and Beth played sisters who own a bar/laundry mat and live through their trials and tribulations with singing, dancing, laughing and crying. They are one dynamic duo!

After the show we all went out (way out…as in down the canyon to a cool restaurant staying open just for the 20+ of us) at had some more laughs, fun, food and some much needed catching up!

It was getting late.
Around 11:00 PM Bethany and I knew we had to head on down the road to get home at some sort of reasonable hour. Little did we know that it would be snowing in the pass. Little did we know that there would be 6 inches of packed snow in the pass. Little did we know that at one point we were driving at 5 mph for almost an hour!
We arrived in Salem at 3:00 AM.
Home in bed at 4:00 AM.

We got a few hours of sleep.

We both work up sick.

Anxiety sick.

Driving sick.

Tired sick.

I finally made it in to work, tired but able. Nothing a good night’s sleep wouldn’t cure. And that is what I did!
All in all it was great to see and hear Cara and MT Beth. It was wonderful to help out their friend with fundraising.
